TIP #18 - Splitters Are Your Friend!
There's a sign in the server room here at Independent Technologies that reads, "The last person to enter the room when a problem is discovered . . . caused the problem." That sentiment is true all over the country when a technician is working on anything.
Save yourself a potential for problems by using splitters at the wall when
installing WESROC Base units. This allows you to use any jack even if is
already being used by another appliance. Just unplug the existing phone
cord, install the splitter and plug in the cord to the base unit into spare jack.
It allows you to "Undo" any changes that you have made by just unplugging
the splitter and plugging the customer's phone cord back into the wall. You
don't have to remember where all the spaghetti of cords were plugged into
when you started the install.
Our installation kits come with splitters, and we do sell "refill" packs of 10
splitters (Part # 70-00-135) for $6.00. It will save you time on an install and
help protect you from an unhappy customer that might call you the next day
and ask why their alarm system, automatic dog door, wireless internet, or
cordless phone isn't working!
If your company is planning on installing the new WESROC Cellular Monitor, you must update the software in your WESROC PDU (Portable Diagnostic Unit). You can perform this upgrade at your site using the serial cable that came with your PDU. The update program can be downloaded at (click here) use the Login: handheld and Password: handheld0799.
Note: please check to make sure your PDU hardware is at least Version 5. (Hold down left arrow key for 3 seconds to view version information)
The newest version of PDU software allows you to communicate with and install the new Cellular Tank Monitor. It displays what cellular carriers are available and the signal strength of cellular signal at that site. It allows you to view and edit the alert points of the tank, CTM Base ID #, tank scaling and initiate communication between the cellular tank monitor and the host computer (Service Call).
